The First Ten Years

Recently I attended a night at Belfast Bible College celebrating the first ten years of 'Fireblade'. It kicked off with a song, 'Now is the time to worship', that really set the scene for the night, worshipping God and giving Him thanks for all He has done in our lives. After praising the Lord with our voices, Eddie welcomed everyone and gave a short intro to the night, following which, Amy Roberts shared a few thoughts and sang a couple of her latest tracks, very challenging to us all. There followed a time of praise ably led by Becci Fox and a group of students from the college and then two scripture readings, Jeremiah 29 vs. 11-13 and Mark 16 v 15. These were followed by a time of prayer and more praise. The floor was then opened for a time of sharing. People from far and wide told how the Lord had used Eddie through 'Fireblade' and how their lives had been touched. The Rev. Nigel Kilpatrick then shared some final thoughts, again giving us all lots to think about and we ended with a further time of worship. Then it was over to the college canteen for supper. All in all it was a very enjoyable night. It was good to meet up with old friends and like it says in Hebrews 10 vs. 23-25, 'Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching'.

Adrian Moucka - A Personal Tribute

On Thursday 17th June 2004, Fireblade Ministries lost one of it's foremost supporters and friends, Adrian Moucka. Adrian passed away suddenly in his own home, less than a week after returning home from the TT on the Isle of Man. He was 48. It was my privilege to have known him and his family for approximately the past seven years since they first moved to Kinallen and attended 1st Dromara Presbyterian Church. During that time he became a very close friend, in fact I would go as far as to say he was my best friend.

We both shared an interest in motorcycles and it was Adrian who ultimately pushed me over the brink to taking my test. He also had an interest in amateur radio, as have I and on numerous occasions we travelled to events as members of RAYNET, the amateur radio emergency network. I recall clambering over the roof of his house one night erecting an antenna in the dark while he stood at the bottom of the ladder yelling encouragement.

Lately he had been installed as an Elder in 1st Dromara (June 2003) and as such we worked as a team visiting and distributing the church reports and magazines in our designated area, Kinallen. On the many occasions when I called at his home the first question was always the same, 'Fancy a cup of coffee?' Many issues and ideas were talked about over the kitchen table, mostly bikes, radio, church stuff, the future for himself, Graham and Aninka, ideas for 'Fireblade'. You always felt that something had been accomplished when it was time to leave. As many of you will know the last four years had been exceptionally difficult with the break up of his marriage. With all the pressures pertaining, Adrian kept his dignity, composure, patience and most of all, his faith.

It can't have been easy trying to juggle everything - a job, raising the kids, his involvement in the Boys' Brigade and the church. Through it all his faith was like a beacon on a hill, it shone out for all to see. I never once saw Adrian lose his temper or raise his voice in anger. His attitude was to approach everything in a quiet, thoughtful and methodical manner. He was a prime example of what we all as Christians should be like. The world has lost a true gentleman, one who provided a perfect example to both young and old alike.

For those of us who had the privilege of knowing him we can surely say that our lives have been enhanced. Although our hearts are heavy we have the assurance that the separation is only temporary and we know that one day we will be reunited in the presence of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. It only remains therefore for me, on behalf of everyone involved with 'Fireblade' to offer our deepest, heartfelt sympathy to Graham, Aninka, Hazel and the wider family circle.
